crestfallen

I remember reading about this in Rolling Stone Magazine in 1996. My newly favorite band had recorded enough b sides to MATCH the amount of album tracks on their double album!

I had already purchased zero @ nobody beats the wiz and fell in love with the photography and was in awe of all the guitar and drum demos in the “pastichio medley”. 1979 let me fall in love with set the ray to jerry and cherry.  Tonight tonight, and 33 left me somewhat disappointed, but I had never spent the money to purchase the bullet single with the only sole B side being “said sadly” which was one of james’ lame songs. I think he’s singing with Nina Gordon, who was 1/2 of veruca salt with nicole fiorentino who is now in the band with billy.

I read somewhere that all the james songs were recorded in Australia, even take me down, with the guys from the fountains of wayne. So the billy and jimmy songs were COMPLETELY separate from the james songs. Even the songs on the 33 single like the boy,  don’t have jimmy chamberlin drumming.  And if you notice, “believe”, “take me down” and “said sadly” don’t even have a drummer. talk about a dysfunctional band.

I for one, love “believe” I find it to be James’ best contribution to the smashing pumpkins catalogue.

I was so thrilled when my dad told me he was going to tower records (under trump towers- about an hours treck) just to pick up this box for me as an xmas gift. My mother had called a few other stores in the NYC area only to find they were all sold out.

I’ll never forget opening this up for christmas. And listening to the Cars and Alice Cooper and Blondie Covers for the first time. My friend Neil will still swear it’s courtney love singing on “dreaming” instead of D’arcy, but I know he’s wrong.

Thanks to Andre for submitting this.
